How to Elongate Eyelashes in Photoshop

Using Adobe Photoshop, you can elongate eyelashes without a prescription in just minutes. Although the effect will be solely on screen, extending eyelashes in Photoshop can be a way of test driving new lashes before buying mascara or false eyelashes or undergoing medical treatment. It is an ideal way to draw attention to the subject's eyes in photographs.

Instructions

    • 1

Start Photoshop. Click "File." Click "Open." Locate the picture with the eyelashes you want to extend and click the name of the file. Click the "Open" button.

    • 2

Click the "magnifying glass icon" at the bottom of the Tools pane. Click several times until you have zoomed in on the eyelashes on the canvas. Because eyelashes are so thin, you'll reach a point where the image starts to pixelate -- break up into tiny colored squares. Just get the eyelashes as magnified as you can while still being able to see the individual lashes. You can also zoom with the "Ctrl" key and the plus sign on the number pad.

    • 3

Click the "Clone Stamp Tool," which looks like a check-cancelling stamper in the middle of the Tools pane. Slide the Size bar to "3" and hover the cursor over the eyelashes without clicking. Determine whether the radius of the cursor is suitable to fit the single width of an eyelash without touching other lashes. Adjust the Size bar as needed -- this will be dependent on how close up the eyelashes were in the original picture.

    • 4

Click the "solid dot brush head" below the Size bar. Hover the cursor directly over part of the eyelash so that you get the middle and tip. Do not put the cursor over where the eyelash meets your eyelid/eyeliner area.

    • 5

Press and hold down the "Alt" key. Click the cursor one time, copying the eyelash area into memory. Release the "Alt" key.

    • 6

Slide the mouse so the cursor is now directly over the tip of the eyelash. Click the left mouse button once to extend the eyelash. It looks longer, much longer than the other ones next to it.

    • 7

Repeat the Clone Stamp Process from Steps 5 and 6 on each eyelash, starting with pressing the "Alt" key each time. Although this process is painstaking, it is important because the shape, thickness and even color of each eyelash can vary and will most certainly be a different arc when working with the top and bottom rows. You may want to work your way from the inner eyelid out or just elongate clusters for a dramatic look.
