How to Clean Duchess Satin

Duchess satin is one of many types of satin. Although commonly thought of as a fabric, satin is actually a weave with a high thread count, which produces a smooth and luxurious sheen. Duchess satin has many uses, from wedding dresses to upholstery to footwear.

Duchess satin is a weave that you can clean in a few ways.

Satin was once a very expensive fabric that only the rich could afford. But today manufacturers make satin from either silk or synthetic fibers. This makes duchess satin more affordable. But you need to clean duchess satin carefully to keep it soft and to increase its longevity.

Hand Washing

  1. Fill a sink with cold water. Add 1 tsp. of mild laundry detergent.

  2. Soak the duchess satin garment for three to five minutes.

  3. Let water drain out sink and refill with cold water.

  4. Rinse the duchess satin thoroughly in the cold water.

  5. Squeeze the water gently out of the satin. Do not twist or wring the satin. This damages the weave.

  6. Dry the satin by placing it on a large towel. Roll the towel up like a pair of socks. Do not put duchess satin in a dryer. The heat and tumbling damages the material.

Machine Washing

  1. Place the duchess satin garment in the washing machine. Wash on the delicate cycle in cold water.

  2. Use laundry detergent made for delicate clothes.

  3. Dry satin on a flat surface or hang dry. Do not use the dryer.
