How to Make an Emo Hairstyle With Short Hair
The emo subculture is related to both the gothic and the punk subcultures, with themes that carry over from both. A short emo hairstyle features long asymmetrical bangs, pulled to one side of the face. Generally they come down over one eye, although not always. The rest of the hair might be tousled, with a textured, chunky look, or it could be spiked. This is a simpler style that can be done with most short haircuts. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Spritz your hair with water or shower ahead of time. Spray a mound of volumizing mousse, about the size of a chicken egg, in your hands and rub your hands together. Bend forward and down, so that your hair is standing on end. Run the mousse through all of your hair except your bangs.

2
Blow dry your hair, still holding your head downward, brushing with the barrel brush. When the back of your hair is relatively dry, flip upright and brush your bangs down and over one eye while you blow dry them.

Straighten your bangs with the hot straightener if your hair is curly or wavy. Do this by clamping the straightener over your bangs at the roots, and slowly pulling it down to the tips. You may need to do this two or three times for the desired results.

Open the tube of hair mascara and use the mascara brush to add a streak of color to your bangs. You can add streaks to the rest of your hair as well. Allow the hair mascara to dry before touching your hair again.

Tips & Warnings
Bright semi-permanent hair dyes are often part of the emo scene, but they are not work friendly. Hair mascara washes out easily, so it is perfect for weekend use. To highlight dark hair, add white streaks first, and then apply the hair mascara over the white areas.
Do not leave the straightener in one spot on your bangs too long or your hair will scorch.
