Use sanitary tools and safe methods to get rid of cuticles.

Knowing the right way to get rid of dead skin on the fingernails can make the difference between healthy cuticles and infected skin. Cuticles, which are dead skin attached to the nail plate, are meant to protect the fingernails from chemicals and infectious pathogens including bacteria, fungi and some viruses. Some people unwisely use nippers, scrub brushes, damaging chemicals and other tools to get well-groomed, perfectly trimmed cuticles. Instead of damaging the fingernails with unsanitary tools and harmful chemicals, use a safe, healthy way to get rid of dead skin on the fingernails. Does this Spark an idea?

    • 5

Remove your hands from the bowl and wipe off excess olive oil with a dry washcloth.

Massage your hands with a moisturizing lotion.

Tips & Warnings

  • If the damp washcloth does not push back the cuticles, use an orangewood stick.

  • Cutting the cuticle may cause infection and damage the nail.
