How to Measure for Concrete Pillars

However, before you can get to this point, you must measure the space carefully, using specific techniques and methods, to ensure the concrete pillar fits perfectly between the floor and ceiling of your home. Find the exact location where you want to install the concrete pillar.

Use a marker to make an "X" on the floor where the pillar will be installed.

Climb an extension ladder to help you reach the ceiling. Ask a friend to hold the ladder steady.

Extend a plumb bob from the ceiling to the floor. Move the plumb bob slightly until it reaches the "X" you marked.

Add another "X" on the ceiling directly above the one on the floor.

Place the end of your tape measure on the ceiling "X." Ask your friend to extend it to the floor to the "X" there and take the measurement. This is how tall the pillar needs to be.
