Friendship bracelets are a way to stay close.

Friendship bracelets are tokens of affection exchanged by friends. They are seldom expensive, and are typically made of embroidery floss, leather cords or plastic beads. Making them and exchanging them make the bracelets meaningful. You can give a friend a bracelet with your initials so he will always think of you when he wears it.

Things You'll Need

  • Elastic thread, 8 to 10 inches per bracelet
  • Lightweight plastic or glass beads
  • Letter beads
  • Letter charms (optional)

Instructions

    • 1

Choose a design for your bracelet. Use alternating colors, a pattern or a solid string of beads. If your friend has a favorite color, incorporate that into your design.

    • 2

Cut a 10-inch piece of elastic thread. If your bracelet needs to be larger or smaller, adjust the length accordingly. Leave 1/2 inch of thread to allow for the final knot.

    • 3

String the beads onto the elastic and add letter beads with your initials in the center of the bracelet. If you're going for a classier look, use glass beads and hanging letter charms. When you have strung all the beads, knot the ends of the thread and cut off any excess thread.
