How to Mount a Hidden Under-Counter Brace
Under-counter braces are necessary pieces of hardware that support elevated countertops. Installing these braces is simple, once you have the actual hardware. All you need to do is figure out where the supporting studs are and be sure that you line up the braces accordingly. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Braces
- Stud finder
- Pencil
- Drill
- Screws (2-2.25 inches)
- Screwdriver
- Level

Locate the supporting studs below the counter level. Use a stud finder if the studs are hidden, and mark the location with a pencil. If the surrounding area is made of wood or heavy material that will support the braces, you can attach the braces wherever you choose. If this is the case, consult the instructions that come with the braces you are using, to find the recommended distance to allow between them.

Place a brace against the stud in the desired position. Measure carefully to be sure the brace is in a position to support the countertop. Drill, and then screw the brace into the stud so that it is secure. Install the other braces at the same height so that you have a row of supports ready to hold the countertop.

Lay the countertop on top of the braces and let the braces take the weight. Ensure that the braces are pressed up against the counter top straight and level. Screw the braces to the underside of the countertop so that it is held firmly in place.

Tips & Warnings
When replacing the braces under a countertop, replace them one at a time unless you are going to take the countertop off entirely and begin anew.
