How to Make Your Own IM With Coco Poster

In 2010, a late night talk show war commenced between Conan O'Brien and Jay Leno, two midnight hosts vying for time slots on NBC network. When NBC decided to let go "The Tonight Show with Conan O' Brien," fans, comedians and artists rallied behind O'Brien as he moved to a new network. Mike Mitchell created the initial "I'm with Coco" poster that led to an artistic movement that spawned prints and t-shirts in support of the talk show host. Painting your own poster for "Coco" may include the same theme or identical design, as long as you include "I'm with Coco" and a signature color of orange to represent O'Brien's hair.

Instructions

    • 1

Sketch out a design of your poster in light pencil marks. Mitchell's version incorporates themes of the American flag and a presidential portrait of Conan O'Brian with the text "I'm with Coco" in all caps. Look at the original poster to create a look-a-like design.

Cut the corners of your poster to round the edges.

    • 3

Lay out newspaper on a flat surface. Set up a painter's palette to create your theme's colors. The traditional poster includes varying shades of gray, white and bright orange.

    • 4

Dip your brush into dark gray paint. Fill in around the square for the stars of the flag. Lighten your paint with a little white to create a medium gray and paint in the stripes. Mix in more white for a light gray paint in the stars and left over stripes.

    • 5

Paint in Conan's face with a white-gray color. Darken around the nose, lips and eyes with darker shades of gray. Use a smaller brush to create finer lines. Paint in Conan's suit with a dark gray and use a white color for his shirt. Create diagonal stripes on his tie with dark and medium-gray tones.

Clean your brushes. Dip your brush into a bright-orange color. Fill in the design of Conan's hair. Mix in a little black to darken the orange color and shade in the shape of Conan's hair around his ear and forehead. Conan's hair curves distinctly at his hairline

Paint the slogan "I'm with Coco" in all caps at the bottom after the other paint dries. Paint "COCO" first a the bottom in large capitalized letters with the same bright orange as the hair color. Use a base white to paint a smaller "I'M WITH" on top of "COCO" aligned to the left.
