How to Make Chiptune With a GameBoy Pocket
Chiptune is a term used to describe music made with an 8-bit processor. Chiptune is a popular form of electronic music that is commonly found in ring tones. You can create your own chiptune music using Little Sound DJ, Nanoloop, Pocket Music or any other 8-bit music creation program. Chiptune music is created in layers, i.e., you create several repeating sounds and layer them over each other to create a pleasing sound.

1
Insert a Gameboy flash cartridge with music software into your Gameboy Pocket and turn the Gameboy Pocket on. Your music creation software will now run on your Gameboy Pocket.

2
Assign sounds to each layer and set a repetition pattern for each sound. For example, if you are designing a backbeat, you will want it repeating regularly in a 2/4 pattern.

3
Assign a frequency and phase for each sound. Frequency will determine the pitch used by the sound and phasing will determine the synchronicity of the sound.
