How to Move to a New Project in Aperture

In the hierarchy of Aperture, projects are a step higher than folders. A project can contain multiple folders, and is a way to give a group of photos or folders a name and a heading so that they are easier to find and differentiate. You might create a new project when organizing photos for a photo book, or when you are arranging photos for a gallery presentation, for example. Whatever your reasons, creating a new project in Aperture is a simple process, and you can choose to create a blank project or create one from the selected photos.

Instructions

  1. Create a Blank Project

    • 1

Click "File" in the top toolbar and choose "New" and "Project." A dialog box will open.

    • 2

Type a name for your project in the "Project Name" box and uncheck the box next to "Move selected items to new project."

    • 3

Click "OK" to create the project. You can now drag and drop images on to the project.

Create a Project from Selected Items

    • 4

Select the photos you wish to add to the new project in the Viewer or Browser window. You can select multiple photos by clicking and dragging to draw a selection box around them, or you can hold the "Cmd" key while you click.

    • 5

Click "File" in the top toolbar and choose "New" and "Project." A dialog box will open.

    • 6

Type a name for your project in the "Project Name:" box. Check the box next to "Move selected items to new project."

    • 7

Click "OK." The new project will be created with the name you entered and the photos that were selected will be automatically added to the project.

Tips & Warnings

  • Photos can appear in multiple projects at once. Dragging a photo from one project to another does not move the original file or delete it from the first project.
