How to Check Friendship in "Ruby"
In the "Pokemon" video games, the happiness value, or friendship value, is a hidden number that represents your Pokemon's level of trust in you. Certain species of Pokemon, such as Golbat and Chansey, evolve when this number reaches its maximum of 225. While you cannot get an exact measurement of this number, characters and devices throughout the games can provide an approximation of a Pokemon's happiness value. For example, in "Pokemon Ruby," characters in Verdanturf Town and Pacifidlog Town can read your Pokemon's emotions.

Verdanturf Tow

Travel to Verdanturf Town near central Hoenn. You can reach the town by traveling west on Route 117 or through the Rusturf Tunnel on Route 116.

Enter the house in the southwest corner of the town.

Talk to the woman inside the house. She will estimate your lead Pokemon's happiness level.
Pacifidlog Town

Travel to Pacifidlog Town, which is off the east coast of the Hoenn mainland.

Enter the house on the southwest raft.

Talk to the man inside the house. If your lead Pokemon has a high happiness level, the man will give you TM27, which contains the Return attack. If your lead Pokemon has a low happiness level, you will receive TM21, which contains the Frustration attack.

Tips & Warnings
The base power of the Return move increases with the happiness of the user. The base power of the Frustration move increases if used by an unhappy Pokemon.
To raise a Pokemon's happiness value, feed it vitamins, equip it with the Soothe Bell item and train it frequently.
