How to Troubleshoot SSHD

An SSHD (solid-state hard drive) is preferable to older hard disk drives because it is faster and isn't prone to mechanical breakdowns. This is because there are fewer moving parts than in regular hard disk drives. Even though these drives are superior, they can still have problems. If you are having issues with your SSHD drive, there are quick ways to troubleshoot the unit.

Instructions

    • 1

Restart your computer. If the hard drive still isn't listed on the desktop or in the drive's folders when the computer restarts, proceed to Step 2.

    • 2

Turn off your computer and locate the hard drive on the unit. On many desktop computers, the hard drive is accessible via the removable side panel on the computer tower. On many laptops, the hard drive is accessible via an upgrade compartment on the bottom of the unit.

    • 3

Disconnect the SSD drive from its port and plug it back in, making sure it is plugged securely into the port. If this doesn't work, proceed to Step 4.

    • 4

Restart the computer and access the BIOS screen. At the start-up screen, there should be information about which key to press to enter BIOS, but if not you will likely press the "F2" or "F1" key to enter the BIOS screen.

    • 5

Click on "Auto" from the main BIOS screen to set the BIOS to automatically detect any drives and devices.

    • 6

Click "Save" to save the changes in BIOS and restart the computer. When the computer comes back on, the drive should be listed. If it still isn't, the hard drive has likely failed and will need to be replaced.
