Let your spouse know how much you appreciate her. Even if she's been making dinner for 20 years, thank her for taking the time to prepare your meal. Say "I love you" often, and compliment her appearance and accomplishments.

Focus on the positive. After all, you married your spouse for a reason! Remembering all the things that attracted you to him in the first place will rekindle warm feelings.

Share household chores. If you are both retired, it is fair to divide up the household responsibilities, but it can also be fun. Try out different recipes, do the dishes together, or see who can clean the kitchen the fastest.

Have hobbies together, but maintain separate lives, too. Trying new things as a couple can give you a sense of adventure, so sign up for that French class or sushi-making lesson. Having some separate interests as well will ensure that you always have something to talk about.

Stay physically close. Although sex is an important part of a relationship, even simple cuddling and hand-holding can be enough. Hold hands on your evening walk, kiss your spouse on the cheek at a dinner party, or simply sit together on the couch to watch a movie.

Communicate honestly and often. If you wish your partner would stop doing something, or do more of something, don't be afraid to ask in a kind way. Being able to talk about everything is an important part of a marriage, and a foundation for a close and loving relationship.
