How to Troubleshoot No VGA Input Signal

A VGA (Video Graphics Array) connector is a pinned cable that is the standard for connecting a computer to a television. You may have noticed VGA ports on your computer or TV, as they are rectangular in shape and have multiple pin holes (usually 15) where the cable plug is inserted. These cables can require some effort to plug in, so if you are not getting a VGA signal on your TV, you can take a look at the cable to see what the problem is.

Instructions

    • 1

Check the plugs at the ends of the VGA cable. Make sure they are plugged securely into the ports on the computer and television.

    • 2

Tighten the securing knobs at the back of the VGA plugs to completely secure the cables. If this doesn't fix the problem proceed to the next step.

    • 3

Unplug the VGA cable from the television and computer.

    • 4

Clear the ports and plug of any dust and debris. Also, check the pins in the plugs to see if any are broken off or bent. If this is the case, you may need to replace the cable.

    • 5

Plug the VGA cables back into the computer and television and test the signal again by changing the inputs on the TV until you come to the VGA input. If it still doesn't work, the cable could have a short in it and will need to be replaced.
