1
Place a stake in the ground to mark the starting location of your border, and then place a stake in the ground at the other end of the flower bed to denote the ending location. Tie a string between the two stakes.
-
2
Place a concrete paving block vertically in front of the string at each end of the stakes. Place a second set of stakes in front of the blocks, and then tie a string between those two stakes. The area between the strings is the area you must excavate. Place the blocks off to the side for now.
-
-
3
Dig out the area between the strings with a shovel. Dig the trench as deep as the concrete blocks are long.
-
4
Fill the trench halfway with fresh cement, mixed according to the package directions, and then level the cement with a trowel.
-
5
Place the first block into the hole at a 45-degree angle. Push the block down approximately halfway into the cement. This leaves approximately 25 percent of the brick exposed above ground.
-
6
Place the next cement block against the first, keeping the 45-degree angle. Place each additional cement block next to the last until you complete the border for the flower bed.
