Stay away from brushes to painlessly untangle your hair.

The matted, twisted knots occur for several reasons, from walking outside on a windy day to skipping the brush and opting for a ponytail. Instructions

    • 1

Spray your dry hair with hair detangler before washing. Work a wide-toothed comb gently through your hair until all of the tangles are removed.

    • 2

Wet your hair with lukewarm water and work a moisturizing shampoo into your locks. Starting at the roots, work the shampoo through your hair down toward the tips, using your fingers to comb through your hair and untangle it. Do not vigorously scrub your hair or bunch it up on top of your head, as this can make the tangles worse.

    • 3

Rinse out the shampoo with warm water and work a moisturizing conditioner through your locks, concentrating on the tips. Work the conditioner through your hair with a wide-toothed comb and allow it to sit for three to five minutes.

    • 4

Rinse out the conditioner and gently squeeze the excess water from your hair with a towel. Do not rub your head vigorously, as this will knot and tangle your hair.

    • 5

Spray your hair with detangler, and work it through with a wide-toothed comb.

Tips & Warnings

  • Wear a hat or scarf on a windy day. This will protect your hair from being tousled and tangled by the breeze.

  • Comb your hair with a wide-toothed comb first thing in the morning and periodically through the day. This will maintain your tangle-free hair.

  • Put your hair in a loose braid or wrap it in a scarf before bed. This will prevent your hair from becoming tangled while you toss and turn in your sleep.
