How to Make Needlepoint Stockings
Needlepoint is the art of creating designs by sewing through a pattern that has been premade. It is a "stitch-by-stitch" pattern; it shows you exactly where to stitch. One needlepoint project is the Christmas stocking. A Christmas stocking requires only a basic understanding of needlepoint and sewing.

1
Draw a stocking shape onto a piece of cloth and cut it out with your knife. Trace the stocking shape onto another piece of cloth and cut this shape out as well. Sew these together and turn them inside out to hide the seams.

2
Create your design using your needlepoint pattern paper if you don't have a store bought pattern. Use your different colored markers to create each individual stitch on the pattern. Be as detailed as possible. Create two patterns, one for each side.

3
Place your pattern on top of your stocking and iron it onto the side of the stocking. This will create a temporarily image of your pattern that you can use to create your needlepoint design.
-
4
Thread your needle with the colored thread you want to use to start your pattern. Create stitches along your pattern design that follows the color you have on your needle. Create a straight line with your thread whenever possible to avoid excessively changing your thread.
-
5
Back stitch when you need to change thread and tie the thread off. Put on a new colored thread and sew it around the areas that correspond to that color. Back stitch and cut the thread when you need to change.
-
6
Continue stitching around your pattern until you finish a side. Repeat the process on the other side to complete your pattern.
