How to Live Cheaply When You're Single
Frugal living is important for families, but it is also vital for a single person living alone. If you are single and lose your job, you have no one to rely on but yourself. Learning to live frugally and save some of your earnings is paramount to your ability to survive on your own. Learning a few simple skills and exercising some discipline will make it possible to live on a smaller budget.

Learn to cook so you do not have to eat out or eat frozen dinners. If you can cook, even if it is just a few meals, you can eat several more meals on the leftovers. This can bring your cost per meal down to just a few cents, as opposed to several dollars for a frozen meal, or even more money for a meal out.

2
Avoid expensive dating habits and find cheaper ones. A nice picnic, even at night, or a dinner by candlelight at your place can be quite romantic. Take a walk in the park instead of paying for movie tickets. See whether your city has free concerts in their park properties. If you plan ahead, you can find cheap or free ways to have fun on a date.

Watch for sales before you buy anything you do not need. If there is a special pair of shoes or a new computer game you want, wait until the price drops or the item goes on sale. You get the same quality item; you just pay less for it.

Take on a roommate to share expenses. This will lower most of your living costs, including rent, groceries and utilities. You can even split entertainment costs by renting movies. One person can rent the movie while the other supplies snacks. Take care to find a roommate you're compatible with. If you don't, the savings might not be worth it.

Avoid shopping for one. Single serving offerings are more expensive per serving than larger sizes. For example, get a box of macaroni and cheese, instead of the single serving cups. You can store the leftovers and eat them later, adding ingredients like chicken or tuna for variety.

6
Use public transportation if it is available in your area. Walk anytime you can, or purchase a cheap bike. You can save significant money on gasoline and wear on your car simply by limiting its use.
