How to Get Out Curry Stains
Curry powder is a spicy ingredient favored in Indian cuisine. It leaves a distinct yellow stain on dishes and especially on clothing. If not removed immediately, a curry stain on fabric can become permanent. However, removing the stain as soon as it gets into the fabric may prevent this from happening. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
-
Washable Fabric
-
1
Clean the stain under lukewarm running water until the water running through the fabric becomes clear.
-
2
Mix equal amounts of glycerine with warm water. Rub the mixture onto the stain and leave it for at least 10 minutes. Use this solution if the fabric is washable but is bleach-sensitive.
-
-
3
Create a mixture of hydrogen peroxide and water, with 90 percent water and 10 percent of the chemical. Soak the stained cloth in the solution for two hours. This solution is appropriate for "fast-color" fabrics that can only tolerate mild bleaching.
-
4
Wash the stained clothes using detergent to remove any remaining curry stain. If dealing with a white fabric, use chlorine bleach to remove the stain.
-
5
Launder the fabric again if the stain is not yet removed completely. Rinse the clothes and hang outside to dry.
Nonwashable Garments
-
6
Mix 1 tbsp. of borax in 2 cups of water. Creating a mixture that is too strong may erase not only the curry stain but the fabric's own color. Test on an inconspicuous area of the item for colorfastness.
-
7
Soak a sponge into the solution and use it to clean the stain from the fabric. Blot the stain with the solution until it is removed.
-
8
Have a garment dry-cleaned if the borax solution fails to remove the curry stain.
