Many hair products remove the moisture from hair, leaving it feeling dry and coarse.

Moisturizing your hair is an important habit for people who want to take care of their hair. When hair is moisturized, the hair is hydrated -- causing it to look better, feel better and grow better. The way to accomplish this is by using hair conditioner. A moisturizing conditioner replaces oils in the hair that are removed through shampooing and styling. It is important to choose the right type of conditioner for your hair type. You can also moisturize your hair with some common household items. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Determine your hair type. Curly or coarse hair requires a heavier conditioner than thin hair. Silky hair needs light conditioners, such as leave-in types. Dry hair needs a moisturizing conditioner. When you purchase a conditioner, read the label and purchase one that is designed exclusively for your hair type.

Condition your hair. After washing hair, apply a conditioner. Focus on the ends of hair and any tangled areas. Leave the conditioner on your hair for approximately five minutes before rinsing thoroughly.

    • 3

Mash up an avocado. After washing your hair, rub the avocado into your wet hair. Let the avocado sit on your hair for 30 minutes and then rinse it thoroughly. The avocado will moisturize your hair but does not contain oils, so your hair will not feel oily.

Mash up a banana. A banana is another household item that is used for moisturizing hair. Apply it to wet or dry hair and leave it on for 45 minutes. Rinse thoroughly and continue to style your hair as usual.

    • 5

Beat an egg white. Rub it on dry hair and let it sit for 30 minutes. Rinse thoroughly. You can also mix in a small amount of mayonnaise with the egg white prior to applying it to your hair.

Use a hot oil treatment. There are many types of hot oil treatments available to purchase or you can make your own by combining 1 teaspoon of soybean oil with 1 teaspoon of castor oil. Heat these in a small pan or in the microwave until they are very warm. Use caution when applying this to your hair because it may get too hot and burn your scalp. After heating it, massage it into your hair and scalp. Wrap a hot towel around your hair. Leave the hot oil on your hair for 15 minutes before washing and rinsing it out.

Tips & Warnings

  • Avoid rubbing conditioner into your scalp, because it will make your hair limp.
