Instructions

    • 1

Scrape the Chapstick off of the upholstery with a dull butter knife. Remove the excess Chapstick before you treat the stain, because it can prevent you from removing the stain completely.

    • 2

Apply a commercial dry-cleaning solvent to a clean washcloth.

    • 3

Sponge the Chapstick stain with the washcloth. Avoid pushing or rubbing onto the stain, because it can cause it to become worse.

    • 4

Apply more dry-cleaning solvent to the stain if it remains. Continue to blot the area until it absorbs the solvent and the stain disappears.

    • 5

Sponge a solution onto the stain that consists of 2 cups of water and 1 tablespoon of liquid dishwashing soap if the stain exists after treating it with the solvent. Dampen a washcloth with the solution and sponge the stain until the upholstery absorbs the liquid and the stain disappears.

    • 6

Rinse the area on the upholstery with cold water after you remove the stain. Use a new washcloth, dampen it slightly with clean water and blot the area to remove the soap or solvent.

Tips & Warnings

  • Buy dry-cleaning solvent in the laundry section of your local convenience store or at a professional dry-cleaning business.

  • Always test dry-cleaning solvent in an inconspicuous area to ensure that it will not damage the upholstery.
