How to Make Shower Cleaner at Home

Making a homemade shower cleaner is a way to reduce the expense of commercial cleaners, and remove a source of harmful chemicals from the home. It is possible to make a cleanser from common and inexpensive ingredients found around the house. When sprayed on shower walls and sponged off it removes sediment and soap scum from the surface. This mixture also makes a good daily shower cleaner for use after each shower to reduce the need to fully clean it as often. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Pour 2 cups of white vinegar into a spray bottle. Use only white vinegar for the best cleaning.

    • 2

Put 2 cups of clean water into a large mixing bowl with a built in spout.

    • 3

Add 1/2 cup baking soda to the water and stir it with a plastic or wooden spoon to dissolve it into the water.

    • 4

Pour the mixture into the spray bottle and tightly seal it. Shake the bottle vigorously for about one minute to combine the contents.

    • 5

Open the bottle and add 2 tablespoons of dishwashing liquid. Seal the bottle again and tightly shake it.

    • 6

Spray the solution onto the shower walls and ensure that you get it into all corners and recesses. Wipe the walls with a sponge after spraying and rinse the cleaned surfaces with water.

Tips & Warnings

  • For hard water buildup or soap scum, leave the solution on the shower walls for a few minutes before wiping them down with the sponge.

  • Shake the bottle lightly prior to each use to keep the solution from settling.

  • To reduce the odor, work with the vinegar in a well ventilated room or with a vent fan operating.
