When alterting your desktop design, change shortcut addresses so they work properly.

As fanatics of television shows and visual designs, computer owners often change icons and desktops to represent their personalities. When you change a shortcut, the target location tends to get corrupted in the process. If you previously changed a shortcut to Internet Explorer (IE), change the desktop shortcut back to the original address to quickly open your browser.

Instructions

    • 1

Click "Start" and select "Programs." Find the "Internet Explorer" icon.

    • 2

Right-click and drag the "Internet Explorer" icon from the menu to your desktop.

    • 3

Click "Create Shortcuts Here" or "Copy Here." Double-click the icon to open Internet Explorer.

    • 4

Open Notepad in the background. Right-click the icon and select "Properties." Copy the "Target" location for IE. Paste the location address into Notepad.

    • 5

Copy the "Start In" location for IE and paste into Notepad.

    • 6

Right-click the icon that you want to change back to IE. Click "Properties" and paste the target location for IE in the "Target" box. Copy and paste the folder's address in the "Start In" box.

    • 7

Double-click the changed icon to test your changes. Delete the IE icon that you created, if necessary.
