How to: Origami X-Wing Dollar Bill
The X-Wing is an X-shaped fighter ship from the Star Wars universe. Origami is the art of folding paper into three-dimensional sculptures. The X-Wing is an immensely popular aspect of the Star Wars films, thanks to their defining roles in some of the most memorable scenes from the original movies. With a bit of preparation and some careful handiwork, you can create your own X-Wing models using a single square sheet of origami paper. The X-Wing is a more advanced origami model that relies on some basic familiar with the art of origami.
Instructions

1
Gather two dollar bills. Tape them together lengthwise, with both bills facing the same direction.
-
2
Use your ruler to measure the length and width of your taped dollar bills. Most origami patterns require a perfect square to produce proper results. Either fold one edge of the bills, or use scissors to cut the bills down to a proper square.
-
-
3
Place your taped bills onto your workspace with the front of the bills facing up.
-
4
Fold the bills diagonally, creating an "X" shape across the center of the paper. Fold so that the paper forms a "cup" shape instead of a "hill."
-
5
Turn the bills over, so that the colored side faces the table. Fold the paper horizontally, then vertically so that you have two folds in the middle of your original diagonal folds.
-
6
Press the folds together so that the entire paper is squashed into a small, multilayered square shape.
-
7
Grab one of the closed flaps on the top layer of the square. Fold the flap toward the center of the square.
-
8
Unfold the closed flap, and then fold it into itself in the opposite direction.
-
9
Unfold the closed flap a second time. Push in on the center of the closed flap to collapse it flat against the square.
-
10
Take one edge from the top of the collapsed fold, and fold it toward the center of the square.
-
11
Unfold the edge, and use the new crease to tuck the bottom of the fold underneath itself. The resulting shape should look like an arrowhead pointing away from the center of the square.
-
12
Repeat steps 8 and 9 with the other rear-facing edge. The result should look like a thin diamond shape inside of a wide diamond shape.
-
13
Fold the edges of the wide diamond shape in the same manner as the previous edges. When you have completed this set of folds you should be left with a multilayered version of the thin diamond shape with two prongs along the top.
-
14
Fold the small central triangle shape so that it faces away from the prongs. Do this on both the front and rear face of the paper.
-
15
Flip the paper so that the prongs face toward you instead of away from you.
-
16
Fold one side flap over from the top layer. This motion should be like turning the page of a magazine. You should be left with only one visible prong.
-
17
Fold the visible prong upwards. Then fold it horizontally across the middle of the prong.
-
18
Unfold the prong, then pinch it inward along the seam. The resulting shape should create a point leading away from the base of the paper.
-
19
Fold the point so that it is tucked into the base of paper with the end of the point creating a 90-degree angle from the base shape.
-
20
Pinch each of the other three prongs in the same manner as the first, creating four legs at 90-degree angles from the base shape with one layer of paper above the legs and one layer of paper below the legs.
-
21
Fold one side of the top layer of of the base shape toward the center. This will begin to collapse the outer shape, refining it into a thin diamond shape. The legs should be pulled taught as you make this fold.
-
22
Fold the other side of the top layer towards the center. Flip the paper upside down and repeat the steps with the bottom layer of the base shape. At this point you should begin to see the resemblance to an actual X-Wing.
-
23
Fold both of the triangular prongs at the bottom of the paper into the body. These prongs comprise the "engines" of the X-Wing.
-
24
Open the folds along the end of each of the "wings." Crease these folds at a 90-degree angle so that they point in the same direction as the front of the ship.
-
25
Pull carefully on the top and bottom of the shape to "inflate" it. Once the paper has been pulled outward, your X-Wing is complete.
