Separate a 1-inch-thick section of Kanekalon hair from the rest of the hair in the package. The hair will be folded in the middle.

    • 2

Stick the fold of the hair through the center of the elastic hair band. To make big ponytail dreads that attach directly to the band, use a large elastic band that is meant to go around your head.

    • 3

Pull the ends of the hair through the loop created by the fold, to knot the hair around the band.

    • 4

Attach the elastic band to a clipboard, with the ends of the clip grabbing the band just above the hair knot.

    • 5

While sitting in a chair and holding the clipboard between your knees, hold the hair taut by the ends and start ratting the hair with the teasing comb. Make long, fast strokes from the tips of the hair to the knot at the top. Continue until the section of hair looks like a fat, poofy dreadlock.

    • 6

Holding the hair tightly at the ends, twist the hair from the tips to the knot. Fold a damp washcloth around the top of the hair piece, just below the knot.

    • 7

Press the washcloth with a hot iron for 10 seconds. Melt the dreadlock just enough to make the twisted hair hold together. Move the washcloth down the dread a few inches at a time, pressing the covered section for 10 seconds each time.

Repeat this process for each additional dreadlock you add.
