DIY Chapstick
Making your own chapstick is an inexpensive, quick and fun activity. You can add a variety of ingredients to customize your lip product's color or flavor. Unlike a store-bought product, homemade chapstick is chemical and preservative-free. To make a lip conditioner, you'll need a small 5-gram jar or special lip-product packaging from a cosmetic wholesale retailer. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- 5-gram jar
- Small bowl
- Petroleum jelly
- Powdered drink mix
- Essential oils

Create a flavored lip product by emptying a tablespoon of petroleum jelly in a small bowl and microwave it for about 30 seconds. Add a teaspoon of powdered drink mix to the mixture to give the balm flavor -- add more if desired. Stir the product and microwave on high for 30 seconds.

Make a conditioning lip product by adding 2 teaspoons of aloe vera gel to a few drops of vitamin E oil. Add 1/2 teaspoon of honey and a drop or two of your favorite essential oil for a light scent.

Add natural color to your lip product by adding juice of two or three smashed blackberries or 1/2 teaspoon of beet juice to the mixture.

Create a lip product in the same shade as your favorite blush or eyeshadow by grinding the powder product into a fine powder and mixing it into petroleum jelly.

Purchase empty make-up tubes from a well-known cosmetic retailer to add the "stick" to your chapstick. Pour the heated lip product into the tube, then freeze the product until the lip balm is solid.
