How to Make a Colorful Diamond Friendship Bracelet thumbnail
Make and trade colorful diamond patterned bracelets with your friends.

The diamond friendship bracelet pattern is an easy design to create with a little patience and organization. Numbering the threads on a clipboard will help you move confidently through each step. Use two contrasting colors for best results. Try selecting one color and letting your friend pick the other one. Create two matching bracelets or reverse the pattern on one. Experiment with different shades and textures of thread or yarn to make a truly unique friendship bracelet.

Instructions

  1. Gather the Materials

    • 1

Measure and cut two pieces of yellow thread and one piece of green thread in 65 inch lengths.

    • 2

Gather the tips of the threads together.

    • 3

Fold the threads in half and tie a knot with a one-inch loop.

    • 4

Attach the knot to the clip board and place the paper under the threads.

    • 5

Spread the threads evenly across the paper and number each thread on the paper. Place a green thread at numbers one and six. The yellow threads should be at places two through five.

    Create the Diamond Pattern

    • 6

Take thread number one and cross it over thread number two in the shape of a number "4." Pull it under string number two and back up through the loop. Pull it tightly to form a knot.

    • 7

Repeat Step 1. This is called a forward knot.

    • 8

Hold thread number one and cross it over thread number three in the shape of a number "4." Pull it under string number three and back up through the loop. Pull it tightly to form a knot. Hold thread number one and cross it over thread number three in the shape of a backward number "4." Pull it up and through the loop. Pull it tightly to form a knot. This is called a forward/backward knot.

    • 9

Hold thread number one and cross it over thread number two in the shape of a backward number "4." Pull it under string number two and back up through the loop. Pull it tightly to form a knot.

    • 10

Repeat Step 4. This is called a backward knot.

    • 11

Take thread number six and make a backward knot with thread number five.

    • 12

Hold thread number six and cross it over thread number four in the shape of a backward number "4." Pull it underneath and back up through the loop. Pull it tightly to form a knot. Hold thread number six and cross it over thread number four in the shape of a number "4." Pull it back up through the loop. Pull it tightly to form a knot. This is called a backward/forward knot.

    • 13

Hold thread number six and make a forward knot with thread number five.

    • 14

Take thread number three and make a forward knot with thread number four.

    • 15

Take thread number three and make a backward knot with thread number two.

    • 16

Hold thread number three and make a backward/forward knot with thread number one.

    • 17

Take thread number four and make a forward knot with thread number five.

    • 18

Hold thread number four and make a forward/backward knot with thread number six.

    • 19

Take thread number three and make a forward knot with thread number four.

    • 20

Take thread number two and make a forward knot with thread number three.

    • 21

Take thread number five and make a backward knot with thread number four.

    • 22

Take thread number three and make a forward knot with thread number four.

    • 23

Repeat Steps 1 through 18 to make the bracelet until there is three inches remaining at the end of the thread.

    Finishing the Bracelet

    • 24

Separate the threads into two sets of three.

    • 25

      Braid each set of threads.

    • 26

Tie a knot at the end of each braid.

    • 27

Remove the bracelet from the clipboard.

    • 28

Slide one braid through the loop and tie the braids together to fasten the bracelet.
