How to Make Musical Notes on Friendship Bracelets

How to Make Musical Notes on Friendship Bracelets thumbnail
Symbols can be knitted into bracelets to personalize them.

There are two types of friendship bracelets. The first type, and most basic, is color-based. This is the type that makes lines of colors forming a pattern. The other type of bracelet is independent knot-based. With this kind of bracelet, you use only two colors and the thread strands never move, allowing you to select each knot in advance and show only that color. The second type of knotting is the process used for making shapes, such as musical notes on a bracelet, as it allows for free handing.

Instructions

    • 1

Plan your bracelet using grid paper and a pencil. The goal is to form the music knot design by breaking it down into individual knots. The design is one color of knots and the rest of the bracelet background is another color. For a music note, draw five dots vertically and then a circle-like group of dots at the bottom of the vertical line.

Cut out the embroidery floss strands to a length of 3 feet. This will give you plenty of string to form the bracelet.

    • 3

Tie a knot into the top of the floss and place the floss pieces onto the cardboard with the knot on a slit at the top and the floss in slits at the bottom. Position a piece of each color together in the slots.

    • 4

Start the first row by tying only background color knots. Usually, it is easiest to remember if these are right-side knots.

    • 5

As you get to the musical note design, switch the knot for those spaces to a left-side knot using the other color of floss. This way, the musical note color shows through instead of the background color.

    • 6

Continue following your pattern and using right and left knots to bring out the respective colors in the row.

    • 7

Tie off the bracelet when you are finished and add a bracelet clasp to both ends.
