How to Show a Hometown in Facebook

When you add your hometown to your Facebook profile, you make it easier for old friends to find and connect with you on the social networking site. If you have a common name, friends can find you faster by searching by additional information such as your hometown. You can add a hometown to Facebook and limit who can see it by editing your Facebook privacy settings.

Instructions

      Open a browser window and navigate to facebook.com. Enter your email address and password and click "Log In."

      Click "Edit My Profile" next to your profile picture or click "Profile," then "Edit Profile" at the top of the page.

      Enter your hometown in the "Hometown" text field. Select a hometown that appears in the drop-down menu as you type. Click "Save Changes."

      Click "Account," then "Privacy Preferences." Click "View Settings" next to "Connecting On Facebook."

      Click the drop-down menu next to "See Your Current City and Hometown" and choose who can see your hometown information.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can make your hometown visible to everyone, friends, friends of friends or customize the setting to make it visible to only certain people. Click "Customize" in the "See Your Current City and Hometown" drop-down menu, select "Specific People" from the "These People" drop-down menu and enter the names of those who you want to see your hometown.
