How to Use a Carver's Spoon
A carver's spoon plane is a tool used in woodworking to make hollow cuts. This tool is commonly used to make wooden bowls or other objects that have concave surfaces such as spoons. Using a carver's spoon is not particularly difficult, and you will become more skilled with the tool as you practice. Use a carver's spoon to create a smooth, curved finish on a wooden project.

1
Hold the carver's spoon firmly in your dominant hand, with your thumb on the top of the handle for support.
-
2
Adjust the carver's spoon to the depth you want to carve. Carver's spoons can be adjusted to create a deep curve or a slight curve, depending on the project.

3
Rub the spoon back and forth on the wood surface. Apply pressure against the handle to shave off the wood gradually. The more pressure you apply, the deeper the spoon will go into the wood.
-
4
Continue carving with the tool until the wood has reached the desired depth and curve. Sand down the area to give it a smooth finish.
