How to Make Steam Punk Gadgets
Steampunk is a sub-genre of science fiction; followers of Steampunk turn to the works of Jules Verne and H.G. Wells for inspiration for their fashion, accessories and gadgets. Steampunk combines Victorian era fashion and technology with futuristic elements. Clock gears and parts feature heavily in Steampunk objects. You can turn an ordinary object or gadget into a unique Steampunk piece with a little innovation and imagination.

1
Decide what you want to turn into a Steampunk piece. People have "Steampunked" their computers and laptops, personal music players, game consoles and cell phones. Start with something small; this lets you experiment with what Steampunk aesthetics you like best. We'll use a cell phone cover as an example.
-
2
Spray paint the cell phone cover (or any other object you are making steampunk) with a black coat of paint. This will prevent any of the object's original color from showing through the brass spray paint. Allow the black base paint to dry completely.

3
Coat the object with brass spray paint and let the paint dry completely.
-
4
Spray the watch parts and gears you are going to use with the brass spray paint and let them dry.
-
5
Arrange the watch parts and gears on the cell phone cover or the object you are Steampunking. Do not apply any glue to the parts and gears at this stage, just experiment with the layout of your design. You can layer a smaller watch cog on a larger one, for example, and place it on the cell phone cover to see where it looks best.
-
6
Apply tacky glue to the watch parts and gears and press them firmly into place once you have decided their exact placement on the cell phone cover or other object. Allow the glue to set completely.
-
7
Experiment with other objects and gadgets to see how you can turn them into Steampunk pieces. Start small and build your way up to larger projects to ensure they look professional and not hastily slapped together.
