How to Make Your Laces Curl on Sperrys
The Sperry Top-Sider was introduced in 1935 as a boat shoe that allowed its wearer to maintain traction on slick surfaces by using an intricately grooved sole. Since then, Sperry's have become a fashion standard in preppy style as a loafer that complements casual and dressy outfits. Curled lace ends are an effect gained through a series of twists and wraps that eliminate the need to constantly tie your shoes, while creating a stylish effect. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Hold one of the shoelaces between your index finger and thumb about 1/2-inch from where the lace meets the shoe. Fold the shoelace over to create a loop on top and grasp the other side of your shoelace with the same index finger and thumb. The distance between the top of the loop and the shoe will vary by preference and the length of the shoelace. It may take a few attempts to successfully complete the curling process.

2
Wrap the shoelace around the two folded parts, along the base. The direction doesn't matter. Keep hold of the two parts of the string while lightly holding the back of the curling lace with your middle finger.

3
Continue to wrap the lace around the two folded pieces. Each new wrap must be placed directly above the previous curl. Insert the end of the shoelace into the end of the curled lace. Tuck it through the first wrapped string in the process. This will keep the curled strings from unraveling.

4
Pull the string up tightly while holding onto the original two parts of the string to tighten the coil. Repeat with the other three shoelaces.
