How to Make Snowmen Out of Socks

Save

Snowmen appear after the ground has been coated with snow. These chilly figures are used as holiday decorations during the Christmas season. You can bring snowmen indoors for your family to enjoy without getting cold by crafting snowmen out of socks. This is an easy craft project in which kids can participate, too. Make a family of sock snowman to display in your home, to give as gifts, or as toys for your children to enjoy.

Things You'll Need

  • White tube sock
  • Rice
  • Yarn
  • Scissors
  • Hot glue gun
  • Pom-pom
  • Buttons
  • Orange felt or construction paper
  • 1 black pipe cleaner
  • Scrap fabric
  • Fill a white tube sock three-quarters full of rice. Wrap a piece of yarn around the sock and tie it in a knot, just above the level of rice.

  • Use your hands to separate the rice-filled portion of sock into three sections. Wrap a piece of yarn around the points that separate each section. Tie the yarn in a knot. Cut the tails off of each yarn tie with a pair of scissors.

  • Set the snowman upright on a work surface. Fold the top of the sock down over the top rice-filled section to form a hat. Roll the edge of the hat up to form the brim. Hot glue a pom-pom to the top of the hat.

  • Attach two buttons to the center of the top section of the snowman with hot glue. These will be the snowman's eyes. Glue three to five buttons in a half circle below the eyes to form the snowman's mouth. Cut a triangle from a piece of orange felt or construction paper and glue it between the snowman's mouth and eyes to give him a nose.

  • Cut one black pipe cleaner in half. Glue the end of one of the pipe cleaner halves in between the bottom and middle sections of the snowman's body. Position the pipe cleaner so it is on the side of the snowman. Glue the second pipe cleaner to the snowman on the opposite side in this same manner. Now your snowman has arms.

  • Cut a long, thin rectangle from a piece of scrap fabric with a pair of scissors. Tie the fabric around the snowman's neck to form a scarf. Glue buttons down the front of your snowman.
