How to Maintain a Mustache

A mustache can have a dramatic effect on a man's image. It can make him look thoughtful, intelligent or frightening. Regardless of the style of mustache you choose, it is important to maintain a well-groomed appearance to cultivate the image you are seeking. Knowing a few basic methods to maintain the look of your mustache will make it easy to look the way you want to.

Things You'll Need

• Comb
• Beard trimmer or scissors

Instructions

1. Wash your mustache with shampoo on a daily basis. You can do this when you shower, using the same shampoo as on your hair and beard. Rinse the mustache thoroughly and dry it before you try to groom it.

2. Comb your mustache down with a fine toothed comb. Straighten it out as much as possible so you can easily trim the excess hair.

3. Use scissors or a trimmer to trim the hair until it is just above your top lip. Begin in the center of your mustache, just under your nose, and trim one side. Then move back to the center and trim the other side.

Tips & Warnings

• Generally, there is no need to trim the top part of your mustache. It typically looks just fine if it grows to the bottom of your nose.
