When a cast is removed from a recently mended limb, particularly one that has been on for more than three weeks, a buildup of dead skin cells can create an unpleasant odor. These dead skin cells build up under the cast and attach themselves to new skin underneath, creating the odor and dry patches. Removing the bad smell you experience after removing your cast can be done by cleaning off these dead skin cells.

Fill a sink or bath with warm water.

Apply, with gentle pressure, fragrance-free soap to the affected area.

Soak the affected area in the warm water for 20 minutes.

Dry the skin with a towel by blotting, not rubbing, the water away.

Apply fragrance-free lotion to the affected area.

Repeat this process once a day until the smell goes away.
