How to Comb a Pomp
The pompadour is a classic men's hairstyle that was first made popular in the 1950s and carried through time by musicians like Elvis and Johnny Cash. A pompadour, also called a pomp, has a very clean, slick look that is only possible through careful technique, the right styling product and the correct haircut. A proper pompadour should be styled on a head that has long hair on the top (at least down to your eyebrows when combed forward) and short hair on the sides and back. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Dip two of your fingers into some hair pomade and scoop up enough to cover both fingertips.
-
2
Run the pomade through the top of your hair, evenly distributing it as best you can with your fingers. For best results, work on clean, dry hair.
-
-
3
Comb the pomade through the hair to distribute the product from root to tip. Add more pomade as needed until all of the hair on the top has a thin, even layer.
-
4
Comb the hair straight back. Place the hand you are not using to hold the comb on the back end of the top of your head and push forward, toward the front of the head, to create a heightened wedge shape. Comb the hair in the front straight up as you push to encourage more height.
-
5
Comb any hairs that are out of place on the top of the head to give the pompadour a smooth, polished look.
-
6
Add a dime-sized amount of pomade to both sides of the head and comb the hair straight back. Comb the hair on the back of the head down to create a slick look.
