Cellophane treatments don't actually use cellophane -- which is good, because high heat could melt plastic into your hair. The nickname arose from the way the treatment wraps around hair follicles and seals at the cuticle level. While you might sit under a hood hair dryer at the salon, you can heat seal the cellophane treatment just fine at home, using everyday tools.

Apply the cellophane to freshly washed, towel-dried hair. Coat your locks evenly with the cellophane for best results.

Plug in your blow dryer and turn the heat to warm or hot and the speed to low.

Wave the blow dryer over your mane to heat the cellophane. Work from one side of your head to the other, applying heat to all parts of your hair. If you have long locks, work from the scalp to the ends before moving on to another section.

Turn off the blow dryer after 20 to 30 minutes, the time the cellophane needs to activate.

Rinse off the cellophane treatment in the shower, washing your hair thoroughly to remove all traces of product.

Tip

After you rinse, follow up with shampoo and conditioner to moisten your locks.
