How to Make an Environmentalist Costume
Dress up with an environmental theme for Halloween, a costume party or Earth Day. Dress as Mother or Father Earth to remind those around you to care for the environment. Make a natural looking costume from flowing robes and homemade leaf attachments, and adorn your head with an ivy crown.

1
Put on a long, floor length robe in a natural color such as tan, brown, taupe or mauve. Light green and blue are appropriate as well.
-
2
Cut scraps of fabric and pieces of construction paper into leaf-like shapes. Sew the leaves all over the robe, focusing on the arms and around the collar. The leaves will give the robes a shaggy aesthetic reminiscent of the woods, trees or trailing vines.

3
Bend plastic ivy wire into a circle to make an ivy crown. Wear sandals made from hemp or another natural material with your costume.
-
4
Wear your hair long and if you are a man, grow a beard out to enhance the natural element of your costume. If you are dressing up for Earth Day, carry pamphlets with information about environmental awareness to compliment your Father Earth persona.

Tips & Warnings
You can often obtain robes that are ideal for a Mother Earth costume from theater or church garage sales.
Wire coated in green plastic and covered in fake ivy leaves is available at most craft stores.
Maintain environmental awareness by using recycled or rescued materials to create your costume. Obtain a robe from a thrift store or garage sale instead of buying a new one. Use scraps of fabric that would otherwise wind up in the trash and cut up a paper bag to make leaves instead of using construction paper.
