How to Keep an Afro Moisturized
Black hair is naturally kinky and dry and more fragile than most other types of hair. However, there are certain hairstyles that black hair is perfect for that are impossible for other hair types. One of these is the afro. Properly tending to your afro entails a consistent regimen of moisturizing to keep it from becoming dry, brittle or otherwise damaged. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Hydrating shampoo
- Conditioner
- Water-based moisturizer
- Oil-based moisturizer or hair butter

Shampoo your hair with a hydrating shampoo about once every seven days. Shampoo dries hair out, so don't shampoo more than is necessary.

Condition your hair after shampooing with a moisturizing conditioner designed for curly or black hair.

Use a water-based moisturizer daily. This adds water to your hair. Immediately after, use an oil-based moisturizer or a hair butter to lock the moisture into your hair.

Tips & Warnings
Pay special attention to the ends of your hair. The ends are the most fragile and need to be moisturized and protected.
Avoid extreme heat from blow dryers and flat irons.
Wrap your hair in a scarf before bed or use an extra-soft pillow to avoid breakage while sleeping.
