How to Apply a Wig

Wear a hair stocking under a wig.

Whether you're wearing a wig due to thinning hair, a part in a play or a desire to be blonde, pink or blue for the night, proper application technique is important. Failure to apply your wig correctly can make the difference between looking natural and looking obvious. Even if your hair is long and thick, you can contain it beneath a wig cap, which will allow the wig to rest more comfortably on your head.

Things You'll Need

• Wig cap
• Bobby pins

Instructions

1. Clip short hair away from your hairline with bobby pins. Put long hair in pin curls. To make a pin curl, press against the roots of the section you want to curl, wind the hair in a spiral around your finger and pin the spiral in place with crossed bobby pins.

2. Pull on a wig cap. The edge of the cap should sit even with your hairline. Smooth the cap over your hair, tucking in any stray pieces.

3. Pull the wig on from back to front, hanging onto the front of the wig as you smooth down the back.

4. Adjust the front of the wig so that it just covers the wig cap.

5. Pin the wig into place with bobby pins.
