How to Make a Gnat Trap
At some point in time you have probably encountered gnats either in your house or swarming outside. Gnats are small, black flies, typically 1/8 inch in length, with fairly long legs and antennae for their size. Gnats do not bite, and are more of a nuisance simply due their buzzing around the insides of homes or around campgrounds. Rather than spray a large area with harmful pesticide to kill the gnats, you can make a simple trap that will help clear the area of these unwanted visitors. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Empty a 1 liter soda bottle. Rinse the bottle out with water. Wipe the outside dry with a towel.
-
2
Cut the top 1/3 portion off the bottle with a utility knife. Make sure you cut the nozzle end off the bottle.
-
-
3
Turn the nozzle piece of bottle upside-down and place it over the open top of the bottle. The nozzle should be pointing down towards the bottom inside of the bottle.
-
4
Tape the edges of the nozzle piece to the rest of the bottle. Seal any cracks around the edge to prevent gnats from escaping; don't seal the nozzle.
-
5
Pour 1 to 2 inches of vinegar into the bottle. Gnats are attracted to the scent of vinegar and will be lured down into the trap.
-
6
Squeeze one or two drops of liquid dish soap into the vinegar. The soap will break the surface tension of the vinegar and prevent the gnats from walking on top of it.
-
7
Place the trap in any area where there are a large number of gnats. If you have gnats throughout your home, you should make more than one trap and place the traps in several locations.
-
8
Peel the tape off the trap and empty the trap every couple of days, of simply throw the trap away and make a new one.
