Origami is an art that children of all ages can enjoy, whether they are folding shapes and objects or playing with a completed origami piece. There are different levels of difficulty to origami. The origami kite is one shape that is appropriate for beginners. It involves few steps and the folds are straightforward. Create origami kites with different colored or patterned origami paper for children to play with outdoors in the playground or at a park. Origami paper measures 6-by-6 inches. The completed origami kite will measure 4 1/2 inches at its widest point and 8 inches long.

Instructions

      Place the origami paper on a flat surface with the front side facing down. Think of the four angles on the paper as the points to a compass. There should be one angle pointing in each direction: north, south, east and west.

      Fold the west corner angle to the east corner angle and unfold.

      Place the west and east corner angles to the center while lining the edge below each corner with the center crease line.

      Tape a strand of string to the bottom corner tip of the origami kite. Turn the paper to the other side and the kite is ready for play.

      Make additional origami kites following these steps with other sheets of origami paper.
