How to Expand an Appearance in Illustrator

Adobe Illustrator is a vector drawing application that enables the user to create layered drawings and images. Vector drawings are based on mathematical formulas and will retain the quality of the graphic when resized. Expanding the appearance of a graphic in Illustrator is performed by using the "Image Size" feature. The Image Size feature allows the user to input the width and height in pixels, inches or other units of measure to expand the appearance of the graphic in Illustrator.

      Open the image to be expanded in Adobe Illustrator. Right-click the image, then click "Open With Adobe Illustrator" to quickly open the file.

      Click "File" from the top navigation bar, and click the "Save for Web & Devices" option. The File Save dialog box opens.

      Click the "Image Size" tab.

      Type the width of for the expanded image into the "Width" input box. Type the height of the expanded image into the "Height" input box. You can also type a percentage of the original size, such as "120%," into the "Percentage" input box.

      Click the "Save" button, then the image is expanded in Illustrator.
