Locate the headphone jack on your computer.

A computer headphone jack is a 3.5 mm port that accepts pin-shaped plugs from standard headphones. If you own a laptop computer, you will find the headphone jack located along one of the front or side edges of your computer. Most laptops use a small graphic or carving in the shape of headphones to indicate the purpose of the port. If you own a PC, the headphone jack may be located in several places.

Instructions

    • 1

Look at your computer speakers. Many contain a headphone jack near the bottom. As with laptop headphone jacks, computer speaker headphone jacks usually contain an image or carving above the port to indicate its purpose.

    • 2

Look on your CD-ROM drive. Many contain a headphone jack with a green socket.

    • 3

Look behind your computer. Almost all computers have a headphone jack here. Again, the port is usually green.

Tips & Warnings

  • Most computers use color-coded mini jack sockets to indicate the purpose of the jack. Although not universal, red generally indicates a microphone input, black indicates a line input and green indicates a line output.
