How to Make a White Beard Out of Yarn
Gandalf, Dumbledore and other famous wizards would be nearly unrecognizable without their distinguished beards. If you dress as a wizard, or any other bearded character, the beard accessory is a necessary part of the costume. However, these elaborate hair pieces are often expensive and difficult to customize. For a truly affordable and unique beard, all you need are a few crafts supplies and a touch of imagination.

1
Cut out the desired size and shape of the beard from a piece of white felt. The beard should be long enough to start under the nose and hang below the chin. You can customize the beard to be as long or short as you desire. Cut out a small section below the nose to form an area for the mouth.
-
2
Cut a small hole on either side of the felt near the ears. Thread a long piece of white yarn into each hole and tie the yarn to the felt. This yarn will hold the beard to the wearer's face when the beard is complete.

3
Cut multiple 4-inch pieces of white yarn. You will need large amounts of yarn for longer beards.
-
4
Attach the yarn pieces, starting at the bottom of the beard, to the felt with a hot glue gun. Allow the yarn pieces to hang down past the bottom of the felt for a more realistic look.
-
5
Fill in the entire piece of felt with the yarn. Cut more yarn as needed.
-
6
Pull the long pieces of yarn attached near the ears over the ears and tie the ends together at the back of the head to secure the beard in place.

Tips & Warnings
Replace white yarn with the color of your choosing.
Attach the beard to the face with spirit gum or wig glue instead of securing the beard with yarn.
Attach yarn to the back of the beard if the back is exposed.
Do not attach the beard to the face with spirit gum or wig glue if you have sensitive skin, as this may cause breakouts or rashes.
