How to Create a Mask From a Color Channel in Photoshop
Adobe Photoshop is a widely use graphics application for editing photos or creating graphics for a wide range of applications, from printed ads and posters to web pages and television ads. It has many tools and functions you can use to create your work. One useful feature in Photoshop is the ability to create masks. Masks protect one part of an image from changes while you work on another. You can even make masks from the color channels.

Start the Photoshop application. Select "File" from the menu and choose "Open." In the dialog that appears, locate an image with which you want to work.

Go to the "Channels" panel on the right and click off the color channels you don't want. Go to "Select" in the menu and choose "Select by Color." In the dialog, click on the dark part of the preview. Click "OK."

Go back to the "Channels" panel and turn all of the channels on to mask the areas defined on that color channel. You can now edit the rest.
