How to Fix a Bent Rod
Most metals can be bent back into shape without the use of heavy-duty tools or a blow torch. While some metals bend with your own strength, other metals need the use of tools, like a vice grip and wrench. For thinner rods, you can use a wire, rod and strip bender. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Wire bender with lever
- Vice grip
- Adjustable wrench

Instructions

Thin Rod

Insert the center of the bent rod into the wire bender.

Place the lever into the hole on top of the wire bender.

Turn the lever in the opposite direction of the bend. If your rod is bent to the right, turn the lever to the left. The pressure from the wire bender bends your rod back to its original shape.
Medium and Thick Rods

Open a vice grip by turning the lever in a counterclockwise direction. Insert the bent rod into the vice grip. Place the center of the bent area above the vice grip. Close the vice grip by turning the lever in a clockwise direction.

Grip the bent area of the rod with an adjustable wrench.

Pull the rod in the opposite direction of the bend. If your rod is bent to the right, pull the rod to the left. The pressure from the vice grip and wrench bends your rod back to its original shape.

Tips & Warnings
Use caution when pulling the rod. Grip the wrench tightly wearing protective gloves and long sleeves.
