Use a USB microphone. The Dragon Naturally Speaking software needs a USB microphone to work. If you aren't using a USB microphone, change the mic to a USB microphone.

Click the "Start" button and then click the "Search" box. Type "mmsys.cpl" into the Search bar and then press the "Enter' button. Click on the "mmsys.cpl" icon and then click the "Sound" icon. Click on the "Recording" tab and then click the "Default" icon. Click the "Custom" tab and then click "Microphone Boost." This will boost the sound on your mic.

Check the clock on the right side of the system tray. If the computer does not have the right time, the motherboard could be defunct Set the time and then restart your computer. If the computer restarts with the incorrect time, take the system to a repair shop.

Click the "Start" button and then type "memory" into the "Search" box. Press the "Enter' button to get into the "Memory Diagnostics Tool." Click on the "Restart Now And Check For Problems" icon. Wait for the system to check your RAM for problems. If the RAM is corrupted, the system will not able to run the Dragon voice files.

Insert the "Dragon Naturally Speaking" install disc into your computer's optical drive. Click on the "Dragon DVD" folder from the "Computer" icon and then click the "Repair Dragon" option from the menu. This will repair the Dragon software on your computer system.
