How to Make Fancy Socks
Transform a plain and ordinary pair of fabric socks into a decorative fashion accessory by adding a ruffled top to the socks from your choice of satin ribbon or lace trim. The socks are easy to embellish and let you make great use of some of the scraps of ribbon you have left over from other sewing projects. If you have a flair for embellishments, add a small satin ribbon bow to the front of the ruffled socks when you are done.

1
Measure around the top of the sock and multiply this circumference measurement by 2. Cut a piece of the ribbon or lace to this length. You can use a narrow piece of ribbon for just a little bit of adornment, or add a 3- or 4-inch-wide ribbon or lace trim to the socks.
-
2
Pin one edge of the ribbon to the right side of the top of the sock. Stretch the sock fabric and pin the ribbon around the top. Continue stretching the sock as you go to create the ruffled look for the ribbon. Overlap the short ends of the ribbon when you reach the end and sew through the overlapping ends.

3
Sew a running stitch around the sock and ribbon joint to attach the ribbon ruffle to the socks.
-
4
Try on the sock and fold over the top ruffled edge. Pin a small satin bow to the front of the sock, where the ribbon and sock connect.
-
5
Remove the sock carefully and sew the bow to the sock.
-
6
Repeat the above steps to adorn the other sock from the pair.
