How to Reconstruct a Skirt Into a Shirt
If your skirt has lost its allure, before throwing it into the donation pile, consider re-purposing it into a shirt. Skirts made from thinner material work best for this project. You can try this pattern with a variety of different skirts and all will yield different looks. For this particular project, use a rounded knee-length skirt. The end product will be a sultry, poncho-like top that's perfect for a summer evening out on the town.

1
Select your skirt. Choose a round skirt that has an interesting pattern or a basic solid skirt. Pick one that will work well with your pants or other skirts. If you can't spare any of your skirts, look for something eye-catching at the local thrift store.

2
Put the skirt over your head to see how it will fit as a shirt and what adjustments need to be made. Extend your arms. About half way between your arm and your waist, mark the space with a fabric pen. Repeat on the other side.

3
Lay the skirt flat on a sewing table or other smooth surface. Smooth out the skirt and line it up so it's even. Start sewing up the skirt lengthwise (where you made your mark with a fabric pen). Sew halfway up the skirt on both sides. This creates the arms.

4
Cut off any loose threads and iron out your shirt skirt.
